Barry Harris Fromm, son of the late Jack Fromm and Shirlee Fromm (née Chapnick), was born on May 27, 1950 in Cleveland, Ohio, and was given the Hebrew name Baruch, meaning "Blessed". Clearly. He was raised in Shaker Heights, Ohio and attended Shaker Heights High School-class of 1968. He enjoyed his undergraduate experience at Butler University in Indianapolis-as a member of the Blue Key Honor Society and the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, and was also a proud recipient of a Jurisdoctor degree from the University of Akron.
Barry did not break the rules. He changed them, by creating a new paradigm and a lens through which to see the world. He brought impact to thousands of people. Through his business pursuits, his political involvement, his personal relationships, and his approach to service in society-Barry always found a way to break the mold, instead. As a businessman with over two dozen corporations under his parent company, Value Recovery Group, he employed hundreds of people over 25 years and changed lives and their families forever. Barry and his team built success by building partnerships, making a commitment to ensure that his partners always got more than their fair share of the deal-continuously raising the bar of performance and commitment to relationships. Lucky for us, this philosophy was not just in business, but in every arena of his life. Amidst much struggle, he overcame-as Barry the Barrister would-and taught us all lessons that could not be taught elsewhere in life.
Barry lived in Upper Arlington, Ohio for nearly thirty years, and built relationships across Central Ohio, the United States, and across the world. Barry is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Lynda (née Schaefer)-who has been his pillar. Barry is also survived by his son, Jordan, his new daughter-in-law, Maria Catalina. Barry is also survived by his sister, Peggy Brin, her husband Bob, his nephews Michael and Lory Brin, and their own beautiful and strong wives and children. Barry is also survived and surrounded by a strong extended family, including his brother-in-law Ted, his wife Marcia, and son Daniel Schaefer, Burl and Edna Ottinger, the rest of the Ottinger and Stephens families, the Ploetz and Chapnick families, the Bernal/Mora family of Bucaramanga, Colombia, and other devoted family members. Barry is also survived and will continue to be cherished by lifelong friends, many of whom are co-workers.
Family will receive friends from 4-7pm on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221. Funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday, November 1, 2018.
