

Berlin D. “Bige” Ward, Sr., 94, of Circleville, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Berger Hospital. He was born August 30, 1918 in Ross County, the son of the late Cary W. and Dovie (Hettinger) Ward. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Jean (Willoughby) Ward; grandson, Mark A. Ward; sisters, Dorothy Allen, Noleen Roof, Bernice Cummins and Marian Ward; and a brother, Wayne Ward. Berlin is survived by his wife, Freda (Waliser) Collins Ward; son, Berlin D. (Jane) Ward, Jr. of Grove City; grandson, Ty (Lisa) Ward; great-grandchildren, Zach and Olivia Ward; sisters, Erma Jean Spangler, Helen Vincent and Dolores “Dolly” Jenkins; brother, Dwight Edgar (Ramona) Ward; brother-in-law, Ralph Roof; and many, many nieces, nephews and special friends.
Berlin was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the DAV and the Pickaway Senior Center. He was a WWII Army veteran and retired from Swift & Company and Hammel and McCrady. Berlin enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching old westerns on tv.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Pastor John Michles officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery with military service by AMVETS Post 2256 Honor Guard. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
