Betty Jean Davis was born on February 1, 1942, in Monroe, Georgia to the late Grady C and Selina Jackson. In 1944, she and her family relocated to Cleveland, Ohio. Betty attended high school within the Cleveland school system and graduated from John Hay High School, focusing her studies on secretarial skills.
Betty was joined in holy matrimony to the late George A. Davis II. Their union was blessed with one son, the late George A. Davis III.
Throughout her professional life, Betty worked as an executive assistant at the Musician’s Union, General Electric, and Timely Talent. She balanced her responsibilities at work with caring for her son.
Betty was a devoted supporter of her son’s wrestling matches, and she maintained a passion for exercise. She served as a gym leader during junior high school, attributing her lifelong commitment to health to this early experience. Betty consistently walked three miles each day, regardless of the weather, up until her final days.
She was dedicated to eating healthy foods and often read food labels, long before it became common practice.
Betty loved the Lord deeply, nurturing her faith from childhood. She attended Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and Greater New Calvary Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio for many years, serving as a member of the usher board.
After moving to Columbus, Ohio in 1993, Betty attended World Harvest Bible College and earned a certificate in General Ministry.
As she grew older, Betty moved to Westerville with her sister to be closer to her niece. Together, Betty, her sister, and her niece took annual vacations to Las Vegas for over a decade, enjoying visits to every shopping mall and fashion store on the strip. Betty was celebrated for her keen sense of fashion and her fondness for fur coats.
Betty departed this life peacefully in her home surrounded by family on March 27, 2026, following a brief illness. She leaves behind her devoted sister, Marsella Jackson (Westerville, OH); her devoted niece, Veronica Carter (Columbus, OH); her brother, James (Phyllis) Jackson of Memphis, Tennessee; and nieces Jennifer Jackson Sangare and Bethany Jackson (both of Charlotte, North Carolina) in addition to a host of family and friends.
She will be remembered for her warmth, strength, and the deep bond she shared with her son. Her passing has left a profound void in the hearts of her family, but her legacy continues through the love and memories she created.
Family will receive friends 11 am- 12 pm Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Schoedinger East, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., where the memorial service will begin at 12 pm. Repass to follow.
