

Betty B. Johnston, 83, of Columbus, passed away Friday, April 9, 2010 at her home. She was born December 1926 in Columbus. Betty attended Otterbein College, studied education, and was a Sigma Alpha Tau sorority member. She married Lloyd L. Johnston on June 15, 1947. In addition to raising their 3 children, Betty volunteered for over 30 years with the Girl Scouts, and ran the day camp at Blendon Woods for a number of years. She taught Sunday school at St. James Episcopal church. She volunteered heavily with the PTA and Head Start. Betty worked for Reviere Dental Center for many years as the office manager. Her organizing skills led to family camping trips to 45 of the 50 states. Betty loved to travel and was very good at solving “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy” puzzles. She and Lloyd also enjoyed square dancing, and were former members of the Cali-Ho square dancing club. Preceded in death by her parents, Merle V. and Katherine Baker; husband of 60 years, Lloyd; and daughter, Donna Kay Barbee. Betty will be missed by her daughters, Alice Moody and Vicki Laws; son-in-law, Philip Barbee; grandchildren, Christina (Jason), Elizabeth (Matthew), Angela (Christopher), Alan (Morgan), and Russell (Stacey); great-grandchildren, Bethany, Jared, Bryan, and Austin; brother, Merle E. Baker; and devoted and loving friend, Carol Etter. Family will receive friends Tuesday, April 13, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at noon at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd., Columbus.
