Mig was born on March 30, 1929, in Dearborn, Michigan to parents Donald and Hazel McGuire. She graduated from Dennison University in 1950 with an English degree and a minor in Drama, where she was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority, and where she met the love of her life, our dad, James A. McKinney. Together, they raised three children, Chris (72), Jim (69) and Cyndy (67).
Sailing was a passion for both of them, and they shared many years of wonderful adventures from the unpredictable waters of Lake Erie to the beautiful oceans off Florida (Vero Beach), the Bahamas, the British Virgin Islands and the San Juan Islands of Washington State.
They were members of the Swim and Racquet Club, where she developed her love of tennis, and became a fierce competitor at Scioto Country Club, and later at the Moorings Yacht Club when they moved to Florida for 25 fun packed years.
Mig also loved snow skiing and water skiing. The family shared many fun-filled adventures snow skiing in Michigan, Colorado, and Utah, and water skiing on the Scioto River and Lake Erie. Mig had a love of writing poems to commemorate many of our family’s and friend’s adventures.
Mig is survived by her children, Chris McKinney, Jim McKinney (wife Kathy Makley) and Cyndy McKinney Diolazo (husband Ed Diolazo); her grandchildren, Shannon Robbins, Sean Bloor, Kristofer McKinney, Natalie McKinney, and Devyn Diolazo; and great grandchildren Victoria Robbins, Nicholas Bloor and Addison Bloor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Donald McGuire, and husband.
A celebration of Mig’s life will be held on November 13, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Schoedinger, Northwest.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Childhood League Center, which she supported through her TWIG group for many years, and where her daughter, Cyndy volunteered during the summers between her college years.
Please join us in celebrating Mig’s life and legacy. She will be deeply missed but forever in our hearts.
