

Betty Jean Oyler, age 88, passed away at the Kobacker House on Monday, March 29, 2010. She was born on December 15, 1921 to the late Gus and Mayme Schick, and was a life long resident of Columbus, Ohio. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Oyler; brothers, Robert Schick and his wife, Myrtle and Howard Schick and his wife, Inell; sister, Mary Ross and her husband, Walter “Bud”. She graduated in 1940 from South High School and then attended the Office Training School, she was a former employee of Clarence M. Gallagher, MD, and retired from Optical Service, Inc. Betty was a member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, Thea Court #5; Eastern Star, Beacon Chapter #593 (65 year member); Greater Buckeye Lake Historical Society; Damen Sektion of the Columbus Maennerchor; and Grant Women’s Service Board. She was a former member of Nena Ohio Child Conservation League. Betty was a life long member of St. John’s Evangelical Protestant Church, United Church of Christ. Survivors include her son Craig (Joyce) Oyler; grandchildren, Cassie and Tyler Reid; nieces, Darlene Schick, and Linda Ross; and nephew, David (Jeannine) Ross. Friends may call Wednesday, March 31, 2010 from 2:00PM-4:00PM and 6:00PM-8:00PM with an Oriental Shrine Service at 7:30PM at SCHOEDINGER MIDTOWN CHAPEL, 229 East State Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215 where funeral service will be held Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 10:00AM.
