Born on June 4, 1949 to parents Richard and Elda Barcalow, Beverly grew up in Bridgeport, Ohio and graduated from St. John Central HS in Bellaire, Ohio in 1967. Little did Beverly know that the annoying boy who sat in front of her in home room and invited her to attend to the Christmas formal senior year, would one day become the love of her life and her husband of 54 years, Lou Amadio.
After High School, Beverly worked as a secretary for the State of Ohio Department of Education in St. Clairsville, Ohio for four years while Lou completed college. The two married in 1971 and made their home in Columbus, Ohio, where Beverly continued her career with the Department of Education as an administrative assistant. Her natural curiosity and determination led her to study computer programming and she went on to build a distinguished 40-year career with the Department of Education, retiring as a Senior Computer Consultant. Even after retirement, her passion for helping others continued as she spent three additional years serving as an Information Technology consultant for a northwest Ohio school district.
Beyond her professional life, Beverly was defined by her kind heart, creativity and generosity.
An avid crafter, she found joy in making others smile through her handmade gifts. Her knitted dishcloths and "Scrubbies" became treasured tokens among friends while her "chemo caps" brought warmth and comfort to those facing cancer treatments. For years, Beverly loving knitted baby blankets for anyone welcoming a new child - each one crafted with and given from the heart. Beverly believed that a handmade gift was a piece of love you could hold.
Beverly also had a true passion for cooking and delighted in preparing meals for her family. She had too many favorites to list, but her family will especially miss watching her make -and enjoying- her homemade noodles from scratch, her zucchini parmesan, Italian Suppli and her traditional Italian fish during the Christmas holiday. Cooking for others was another way she expressed her love and her kitchen was often filled with laughter, stories and the comfort of good food shared among those she cherished most. Beverly was also a competitive Mahjong player who relished both the challenge and the companionship of the game, often teaching her friends in Columbus and Naples, Florida how to play. In retirement, Beverly and Lou treasured their winters in Naples, where they built lasting friendships and enjoyed sunny days filled with laughter. Their travels together -especially Italy, Beverly's favorite destination- brought her immense joy and lasting memories.
Left to cherish her memory is Lou, Beverly's devoted husband of 54 years, loving son David (Karen), adored grandson Enzo. Beverly is also survived by her sisters Gloria Barcalow and Kathy Haggerty(Don), nephews Derek and Ryan Haggerty and Chad Ollom and our dear Aunt Nancy of Winter Haven, Florida - the cherished matriarch of the family.
Lou and David would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the ALS Team at ALS United Ohio for their assistance and passion to help victims of this terrible disease and to Nurse Valery and the entire Luminary Hospice team for their care, kindness and support during Beverly's journey.
A special thank you also goes to Beverly's caregivers - Florence, Jennifer and Miriam -whose loving presence brought comfort and dignity each day. The family is deeply grateful to the residents of River Highlands for their generosity and steadfast support for both Beverly and Lou.
