Blanche Topazio, of Upper Arlington, near Columbus, Ohio formerly of Dillonvale, Hopedale and Bloomingdale, Ohio died peacefully on April 23, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Blanche was born to Katie and Frank Rumonoski on August 7, 1926.
Blanche graduated as Salutatorian from Dillonvale High School and then became a teacher after attending Kent State University. After Kent State, she started teaching at the Dillonvale elementary school.
Blanche then met the love of her life, Dominick Topazio and moved to Hopedale. Ahead of her time, she started a kindergarten in the basement of the post office because there were no teaching positions available in the Hopedale school system. Finally, a teaching position became available, and Blanche spent fourteen years teaching in the Hopedale and Bloomingdale school systems. In 1963, Blanche and Dominick purchased the Pike Inn and successfully owned the thriving family restaurant for 31 years. While the restaurant business was very time consuming, they did have a chance to travel to Montana to visit relatives on many occasions throughout the years and even traveled to Germany, Poland and Italy for an extended trip to visit relatives.
Blanche loved technology and even took computer classes during the 1980's. Right up until the end of her life she was Face Timing with family and friends on her iPad, used an iPhone, had a desktop computer, a smart TV, and two Alexa's that allowed her to listen to the polka party. She also was a voracious reader who enjoyed reading on her Kindle.
Blanche loved going to the opera, watching Netflix, listening to Dean Martin and Bobby Vinton songs - and watching the Hallmark Channel. She thoroughly enjoyed playing with her great-granddaughter Chloe and enjoyed watching the success of her great-granddaughter Hannah.
Truly, the love of family and friends was the absolute joy of her life and she readily gave that gift to others.
She had recently moved to Abbington of Arlington and had made many friends there quickly.
Blanche was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; her sister Virginia Krulcik; brother John Rumonoski; an infant child who died at birth, Jeffrey Mark Topazio; and granddaughter Jennifer. Blanche is survived by her daughter Bernadine ("Tina") Topazio (Mark Fullerton); and a son Dominick J. Topazio (Laura); a grandchild Joe Topazio (Melanie); two great-grandchildren (Hannah and Chloe); a sister-in-law, Mary Conroy; and many nieces and nephews who were blessed to have her in their lives.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3 PM on Friday, April 30, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 205 Cross Street, Hopedale, Ohio 43976. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Catholic Charities USA, 2050 Ballenger Ave Suite 400, Alexandria, VA 22314 or https://www.catholiccharitiesusa.org/ways-to-give.
