Brenda Joyce Smith

Brenda Joyce Smith, 70, of Gahanna, OH passed away at home on December 27, 2016. She was born on January 2, 1946 in Washington, DC to the late Eugene and Marjorie (Williams) Young. Brenda graduated from Washington High School in 1964, where she was Miss Massillonian. She earned her Master's degree from Ohio University, where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and the Yeoman's Club Miss October. Brenda was an accomplished writer and editor at Merrill Publishing, in addition, having published two of her own books. She dedicated 30 years of her life to AA where she helped and sponsored many people. She is survived by her beloved husband of 38 years, Duane Smith; cousins, Maureen Zimmerman, Stan Williams, and Suzanne Cannon all of Seattle, WA and Julie Williams of Washington, DC; niece, Susan Smith-McKinney; nephew, David George Smith; brother-in-law, Norman David (Nonglok) Smith and many dear friends. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 pm Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd. Gahanna, OH 43230, where the funeral service will be held 10 am Wednesday, January 4, 2017. An additional visitation will be held 5-7 pm Wednesday at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home, 26 2nd St. NE, Massillon, OH 44646, where a funeral service will be held at 10 am Thursday, January 5, 2017. Interment to follow at Sixteen Cemetery in Massillon.
