Brian was a 2004 graduate of Thomas Worthington H.S. and the Linworth Alternative Program. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Brian was an avid reader and learner, and friends and family often marveled at his encyclopedic knowledge on many topics, especially music. Brian's passion for music was never ending. He wrote songs that he performed as a bass player and vocalist in several bands that he formed, including - most recently - Into the Briar Patch. His musical work included the recently completed, but not yet released, Shtetl project, dedicated to the small Jewish towns in Eastern Europe that disappeared during the Holocaust.
Brian loved to cook both professionally and for enjoyment, and he greatly improved his culinary skills working for Chef Catie Randazzo at Challah and as a sous chef at the Grandview Yard Giant Eagle Market District. Brian was a four-year cancer survivor due to the incredible care he received from Dr. Matthew Old and countless others at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital. Brian's last year was his happiest, sharing his life and love with his best friend and partner, Kelsey Sradeja, writing and performing his music, preparing and enjoying wonderful cuisine, and traveling with his family.
Surviving are his parents, Russ and Randi Carnahan; his grandmother, Marjorie Carnahan; his brothers Michael and Stephen Carnahan, and his sister Haley Carnahan; Aunts and Uncles, Carrie and Jamie Young, Lisa Chiarella, and Mitch and Lonnie Cohn; first cousins Lauren and Alex Chiarella, Katie and Julie Young, and Zach and Josh Cohn; and partner Kelsey Sradeja. Predeceased by Grandparents Edward and Elayne Cohn and Arthur Carnahan.
Family will receive friends Sunday, September 15, from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St., Worthington. A private funeral service for family will be held at Congregation Beth Tikvah on Monday, September 16, with burial at Greenlawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made at www.linworth.org/donate/ to the Jessica Forman Walkabout Scholarship, which will be expanded in Brian's memory to provide additional financial assistance for expenses incurred by students in their senior year walkabout program.
