

Mrs. Buena Vista Stubblefield Valentine, 90, passed away peacefully February 5th, 2026 surrounded by love and care. Buena was born on June 22nd,1935 in Viola, Tennessee to the late Vivian Elizabeth Ramsey Stubblefield and Thomas Jay Stubblefield.
Buena was a devoted mother and homemaker delighting in spending time with her two daughters cooking, gardening, and sewing, and volunteered regularly at their elementary school. She was a steadfast companion and compliment to her husband, traveling the world on their many adventures, assisting him with collecting and illustrating his extensive insect and herpetological collections and groaning encouragingly at his endless puns. Buena also worked at the Ohio State University helping to curate various insect collections and assisted her brothers with expanding their jewelry business in Ohio. She was a gifted artist and photographer, an amazing cook, and is remembered by her entire family for her exceptional ability to select and mix colors and textures when decorating anything. Her steadfast common sense and delight and wonder in reading and learning accompanied her throughout her life.
Buena was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Barry Dean Valentine and her brothers Paul and Michael Stubblefield. Forever cherished, Buena is survived and missed deeply by her daughters, Susan (William) Valentine-Cooper, and Nancy (Michael) Valentine-Urbschat, 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and her brother Jerry (Betsy) Stubblefield. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews and dear friends.
A celebration of Buena’s life will take place for family and friends April 17, 2026. Per her wishes, Buena will be cremated and her ashes, together with her husband’s, will be scattered at three of their favorite locations in Ohio, the BVI, and East Africa.
