

Carl R. “Gus” Helmbrecht, age 95 of Columbus, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2010. Carl was born and raised in Columbus, son of the late Carl J. and Ruby Helmbrecht. Also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helmbrecht, and siblings, Everetta Adams, Rosemary Suver, Edna Suver, and John Helmbrecht. Carl was a U.S. Army Air Corp. WWII Veteran. He previously worked at Timmons Manufacturing and Johns Mansville. Some might say that they broke the mold when they made Carl. He was a man who was always full of life. He was outgoing, inspirational, always had a smile on his face, and was a person many people would turn to for advice. He enjoyed listening to music, particularly Big Band, was a fabulous story teller, and looked forward to time spent with family and friends. He was a special grandfather to Kim and Pat Conley; special papaw to Ryan and Kyle Conley; loving brother to Dorothy (Joseph) Rose; dear friend to Jeff “Doc” Huffman; and he will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at SCHOEDINGER HILLTOP CHAPEL, 3030 W. Broad St., where family will receive friends from 11 A.M. until time of service.
