

Dr. Carl Edward Skrade, 84, of Columbus, passed away on September 5, 2019. He was born on August 11, 1935 to the late Edwin and Edith Skrade. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gene Skrade.
Upon graduating high school, Carl went on to attend Luther College in Decorah, Iowa where he received his undergraduate degree. He earned his M.Div. at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota, and went on to earn his Th.D. from Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. In 1966, Carl and his wife Carol moved to Columbus where he began teaching at Capital University. While at Capital University Carl was a celebrated professor and at times controversial. He was never afraid to challenge the status quo. He also authored two books; Celluoid and Symbols and God and the Grotesque.
In Carl's free time he enjoyed studying botany while tending to both his flower and vegetable gardens. He also loved photography and could often be found photographing flowers, wildlife and nature scenes. Carl built their family cabin in Wisconsin that would become a gathering place for his family for many years. Family vacations and great memories were shared at the cabin.
Carl will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Carol Skrade; children, Pete Skrade and Kristofer (Ivy) Skrade; siblings, Roger (Cecilia) Skrade, Elaine Johnson, Doug (Helen) Skrade, and Barbara (Chuck) Gremore; grandchildren, Piper Skrade, Eli Skrade, and Annabel Skrade; half-brother/half son, Art Yoho; and many nieces, nephews and other collegiate friends and family.
A memorial service will be held on September 20, 2019 at 4PM at the Capital University Chapel.
