

Carmela Eleanor Santoro (Scarsella), age 88, passed away on November 14, 2019 while in Palliative Care at St. Ann’s Hospital. She was born on February 18, 1931 in Staten Island, New York to the late Pasquale and Catherine Santoro.
She also joins her husband Richard Scarsella; her brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Patricia Santoro; her Aunt Eleanor Rinaldi; cousins Joe Rinaldi and Marie Rinaldi Ziglar.
She is survived by her brother Frank and Nancy Santoro; nieces and nephews: Michael (Ruth) Santoro, Teresa (Dr. Matthew) Stevenson, Dr. Frank (Susan) Santoro, Mary (Ken) Sheetz and Bob (Chris) Santoro; great-nieces and nephews: Anna and Abby Stevenson, Kyle and Haeli Santoro, Jennifer (Sunjay) Nunley, Kristin Sheetz, Philip and Ryan Santoro, Michael, Matthew and Mia Santoro.
Carmela attended the Pratt Institute of Design. She had beautiful handwriting, which gave her the gift to create beautiful calligraphy, and to hold a membership with the Calligraphy Guild. Carmela’s employment started with Borden, Inc. She retired from North American Rockwell, where she met her husband Richard. A founding member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Carmela served with the St. Clare Circle. She was most proud of being from Staten Island, New York and of her Italian heritage. No matter who she met, if they were from Staten Island, or they were Italian, she called them friend.
Her family will receive friends from 4-7PM, Thursday at SCHOEDINGER NORTH FUNERAL HOME, 5554 Karl Road. At the start of visitation (4PM) Prayers will be recited and a family eulogy shared. Mass of Christian Burial, 10am, Friday, November 22, 2019 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 1380 Urban Drive, Columbus, 43229. Father Tom Petry, Celebrant. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association Central Ohio Chapter, 1379 Dublin Road, Columbus, Ohio 4321,5 in her memory.
