Carol Anne (Nolan, Dicke) McCormick, age 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 21, 2021 with family by her side after years of battling Alzheimer’s. Carol was born on March 19, 1943 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Robert and Ann (Hults) Nolan. Also preceding her in death were brothers James Nolan and Richard Nolan.
Carol graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Columbus before studying dance at The Ohio State University. Carol began ballet and tap dancing at the age of 5, and carried that love of dance and movement into multiple careers. She taught ballet and tap to children at the Fasting/Farquhar Ballet Studio in Upper Arlington and the Worthington Civic Ballet Studio. She also taught tap, western round, square, line, and ballroom dancing to seniors at Columbus Recreation and Parks Senior Citizens Centers.
After a second career as a Client Services Manager for The Frank Gates Service Company (where she also developed and taught a lunchtime “Stretch & Relax” class for employees), Carol continued her passion for teaching movement, becoming a certified Hatha-based yoga instructor at WiseWays Yoga Studio in Grandview, specializing in leading Prenatal Yoga and Yoga for Kids & Parents classes.
Carol had a vivacious and loving personality that made it easy for her to make friends wherever she went. Friends have said they “always felt a joy after being with her.” Carol loved to travel with family and friends; loved to listen to music (from classical to John Denver to Perry Como to almost anything with a piano); and loved to support the arts. In addition to her love and devotion of being a mother, perhaps her most cherished roll in life was that of grandmother.
Carol will be deeply missed by her loving family: son Matthew (Angela) Dicke; daughter Carrie (Jim) Wheaton; grandchildren Samantha Dicke and Grant Wheaton; brothers Dennis (Marian) Nolan and Patrick (Sharlene) Nolan; former sister-in-law Linda Nolan; and longtime love and partner Darrell Joseph.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Carol’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association Central Ohio Chapter, 1379 Dublin Road, Columbus, Ohio 43215. The family will be having a Celebration of Life service at a later date when it is safe to congregate.
