

Carolyn Ann Jernigan, age 88, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2011. She was born in Marysville, Ohio, on January 10, 1923, to the late Henry and Anna Kandel. After high school, Carolyn graduated from the Mount Carmel School of Nursing and served our country in the US Army as a nurse stationed in Germany. She then moved to Columbus where she worked as an RN at Timken Roller Bearing. In 1950, she married James Alvin Jernigan and started a family, and she dedicated the rest of her life to being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Carolyn was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. She volunteered at the LSS Food Pantry for more than 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Jernigan. She is survived by her children, Ronald (Donna) Jernigan, Richard (Sally) Jernigan, and Judith Jernigan; brother, Eugene Kandel; grandchildren, Luke (Katie), Jacob (Jenny), and Kevin; and great grandchildren, Nathan and Elizabeth. Family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2011, at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Road, Gahanna. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 4, at Peace Lutheran Church, 455 Clark State Road, Gahanna, Ohio 43230. Inurnment will be held at Mifflin Cemetery at a later date.
