Catherine Louise Swanson

Catherine “Louise” Swanson passed away at her home at First Community Village on Friday, October 9, 2026. Louise was born in Columbus on February 21, 1941 to Richard Nye and Catherine Helen Larrimer.

She graduated from Columbus School for Girls in 1958 and The Ohio State University in 1962 with a degree in education. She married David Hodges Swanson Jr. in 1962, who preceded her in death in 2024, and they were married nearly 60 years.

She was involved in numerous charities and organizations over the years. In particular, she had a great love of classical music and was a member of the Friends of the Columbus Symphony, formerly the Women’s Association of the Columbus Symphony, Vivace Unit, for 50 years. She was also involved in the Bexley Women’s Association and the Mary Ritter Garden Club and was co-owner of the Peacock’s Tale bookstore in Westerville for several years.

She enjoyed going to the symphony and always had classical music playing on the radio in the background throughout the day. In addition, she had a strong interest in books and classes on spiritual growth and meditation. She also thoroughly enjoyed partaking in her afternoon tea!

She is survived by her children Leslie Swanson, David (Stacey) Swanson III, Christopher (Brittany) Swanson, and Diana Swanson; grandchildren Brandon, Adam, Michael, and Tatum Swanson; sisters Ellen (Thomas) Tripp and Marge (Jeff) Tenenbaum; bothers Dr. John (Karen) Larrimer and Neil (Sally) Larrimer; in-laws Linda (Hugh) Westwater, William (Judi) Swanson, and James (Tricia) Swanson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
