Cecilia Toy

God must have been talking about Cecilia M. (Popp) Toy, age 96 years old of Columbus, Ohio, who died Friday, May 18, 2018 at Highland Court in Marshall, Arkansas. Cecilia was born on April 28, 1922 in Pendleton, New York to Michael A. Popp and Helen Beiter Popp. Cecilia was born on a farm along with her six sisters and two brothers. She went to Catholic Church and school. After graduation, during WWII, Cecilia joined the war effort by enlisting in the WACS. She met her future husband Robert Edward Toy while in the service. After discharge from the WACS, she worked at the Pentagon until Robert proposed and they were married. They moved to Columbus, Ohio where they were blessed with their six children: Robert Edward Toy Jr., Thomas Joseph Toy, Kathleen Ann (Toy) Gould, Christine Marie (Toy) Neff, Cynthia Lee (Toy) Oldham, and Albert Michael Toy. She had 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Cecilia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was an excellent Christian example to her family. Her love for the Lord was evident by the way she lived her life. Cecilia was involved with her church from an early age. She was a member of the altar society and helped out whenever needed, including helping with bingo for 20+ years and volunteering in the school cafeteria until she was 92. She retired from Big Bear grocery store after 35 years. Cecilia enjoyed camping with her husband. Her family and neighborhood kids enjoyed her baking, especially her famous donuts and cinnamon rolls. Cecilia enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles, playing Mexican Train, and euchre until she was 95. She also loved her coffee, anytime and anywhere. Cecilia is preceded in death by her husband Robert E. Toy Sr., daughter Kathleen Ann (Toy) Gould, and grandson Sean Robert Gould, as well as all of her eight brothers and sisters. Family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Thursday, May 24, 2018 at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43229. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Friday, May 25, 2018, at St. James the Less, 1628 Oakland Park Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43224. Father Larussa officiating. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery to immediately follow.
