

She was born, October 1st, 1937 in undivided India and then settled in her favorite city, Lucknow, UP, India with her family after India’s partition. She graduated with distinction from IT college, Lucknow University prior to marrying the love of her life, Om Prakash, in November of 1962 and pursuing her passion as a teacher. They raised a family together in New Delhi India and enjoyed 55 years of marriage prior to his death in 2017.
In March of 2021 Kanta ji joined her daughter, Bindu Bhugra, in the United States. Although she missed New Delhi, she made Ohio her home and passed having taken her oath of US citizenship.
Known as Mom, Momma, Mamma, Mummy, Kanta, Kanta ji, Kanta Mamiji, Kanta behenji, Kanta bhabhiji, Kanta Masi, Kanta bua, Kanta Aunty, and Mrs. Bhugra by those that loved her, Kanta ji touched many lives. She could often be found reading, praying, eating her favorite Graeter’s ice cream, and sharing laughter with friends and family.
Chander Kanta Bhugra was preceded in death by her husband, Om Parkash Bhugra; her parents, Sonu Ram Varma and Kaushalaya Devi Varma (Rakheja); younger sisters Om Kumari Sharma and Raj Prakash; Elder brother, Om Prakash Varma and younger brother, Vishwa Kumar Varma.
She is survived by her daughter Bindu Bhugra Mehra, her son, Neeraj Bhugra (Chitra), and her grandchildren, Vipul Bhugra and Priya Mehra.
