
Charlene Davis Holt, a long-time Columbus, Ohio resident, died Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Seasons of Southpoint in Durham, North Carolina. Born January 8th, 1923 in New Straitsville, Ohio, to Myrta Barthlow Davis and George Davis, Charlene was the sixth of seven children. Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, James Ray Holt, brothers William, Kermit, and George, sisters Lucille and Murlene, and sons-in-law, John Carl Gross and Robert Eugene Higley. Charlene moved to Columbus, Ohio after graduating high school and later met and married James Ray Holt. Together they had two daughters, Peggy Holt Gross and Pamela Holt-Higley. Charlene and Jim were married for over 50 years. Professionally, Charlene worked as an executive secretary for the office of the Franklin County Engineer, the State of Ohio, and Arthur Treacher’s Fish and Chips headquarters. Charlene was a quiet, kind woman and was known to many as “Charlie”. She was a terrific cook and was well-known for the amazing pies she baked. She was a voracious reader, loved working in her flower beds, and spending time with her family. Charlene is survived by her beloved “little sister”, Betty Davis Fuchs of Senecaville, Ohio; daughters Peggy Holt Gross of Carrollton, Texas and Pamela Holt-Higley of Durham, North Carolina, grandchildren Aaron James Gross of Carrollton, Texas and Amanda Higley Keske of Concord, North Carolina, great granddaughter Cali Aurora Gross, and many nieces and nephews. Charlene will be laid to rest beside Jim at Kingwood Memorial Park in Lewis Center, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
