Charles Alred Freville

Charles (Chuck) A. Freville, age 90, passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 in Columbus, Ohio. Born March 3, 1925 in Gary, Indiana, Chuck attended Lew Wallace High School before marrying the love of his life, Dorothy (Swetlick) Freville on April 16, 1947. Chuck was a 32nd degree Freemason for over 50 years. A proud veteran of the United States Navy (1946-1948), Chuck served on the USS Mathews (AKA-96), USS Boxer (CV-21) and USS Tarawa (CV-40). Chuck was employed at Gary Screw and Bolt in Gary, IN and went on to serve 36 years with the United States Postal Service (AFL-CIO #266) before retiring in 1985. As a man of faith, Chuck was a long time member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Hobart, Indiana and current member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Columbus, Ohio. Chuck was an avid bowler and active member of the "Young at Heart" bowling league into his late 80s. Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Dorothy (Swetlick) Freville; children, Barbara (Freville) Jackson; Chuck E. Freville (Glenn Chappatta); grandchildren, Michelle (Charley) Maghes; Christopher Freville; David (Emilia) Jackson; great granddaughters, Sarah, Megan and Emily Maghes; sister-in-law, Patricia Freeville and several nieces and nephews. Chuck is preceded in death by his mother Ethel (Pregent) Pschorr, brother Jack Freeville and sister Beverly Konja. Calling hours at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 North High Street, Worthington, OH 43085 Saturday, August 22, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Celebration of life at Lord of Life Lutheran Church 2480 W Dublin Granville Road, Columbus, OH 43235 Sunday, August 23, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Beth Clothier officiating. A public memorial service will be held at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft Street, Merrillville, IN 46410 on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. prior to interment at Calumet Park Cemetery 2305 W 73rd Avenue, Merrillville, IN 46410. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Charles Freville to Lord of Life Lutheran Church 2480 W Dublin Granville Road, Columbus, OH 43235.
