

Charles Joseph Harter, 90, of Circleville, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Berger Hospital. He was born March 4, 1921 in Portsmouth, the son of the late Charles and Frances (Shiffer) Harter. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Mary Harter, Frances Houser, Theresa Kennedy and Isabel McDonough. Charlie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Circleville and St. Ladislas Catholic Church in Columbus. He served during World War II in the Army Air forces from 1942 until 1946. He received his Bachelor and Masters degrees from The Ohio State University. Charlie retired from E. I. Dupont in 1985. He is survived by his nephews, James C. Houser, West Milton, Ohio, Gerald M. (Rita) Houser Little Hocking, Ohio, Steven (Mary) McDonough, Osterville, MA; niece, Christina Bernard, Wakefield, RI; and several grand-nephews and nieces. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 18, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Circleville with Fr. Theodore Machnik officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Circleville with military honors provided by AMVETS Post 2256 Honor Guard. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home with prayer service at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions be made to the charity of choice.
