Charles Ivan Jones

Charles Ivan Jones, age 81, of Gahanna, Ohio died peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 27, 2015. Charles was born and raised in New Cumberland, West Virginia, son of the late Paul Maxwell Jones and Lela Shook Jones. Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Martha Ann Allison, and his brother, John Paul Jones. He will be greatly missed by his loving daughters Jill (Joseph) Churilla, Jo Ann (Joe) Copeland, Janet (Jim) Faughnan, and Jennifer (Dave) Gilman; grandchildren Elizabeth and Joseph Churilla, Kelly and Katie Faughnan, and Leslie and Rachel Gilman; brother-in-law Ken (Jackie) Taylor; nephews John Paul Jones Jr. (Barb) and Bradley Taylor; great nieces Nicole Jones Matthews and Allison Jones.

Charles was a Christian by faith and a lifelong educator, selfless in service to the Lord and his Country. He was a proud West Virginia University Alumni and a US Army Veteran. Noteworthy highlights of his career in education throughout Ohio, Maryland, West Virginia, and Delaware include: The principal of Middletown High School, Middletown Delaware, during the first year of integration and Superintendent of Schools in St. Clairsville, Ohio.

He was a lay pastor in the United Methodist Church serving charges including Nessly Chapel, New Cumberland, West Virginia and member and lay leader of the New Albany United Methodist Church. He loved Mountaineer football and Pirate baseball. He had a passion for US History, Government and politics. Charles was a member of Rotary International, Jaycees, and Weirton Masonic Lodge #171.

Family will receive friends at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Road, Gahanna Ohio, on Monday June 29, 2015 from 6-8pm and Tuesday June 30, 2015 beginning 1pm. with funeral services following at 3pm. Wednesday July 1, 2015, graveside services will be held at noon at New Cumberland Cemetery, New Cumberland, West Virginia.
