

Charlie Yuping Shu, age 48 of Columbus, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2012. Charlie was born and raised in Shanghai, China, son of Jinlin Xu and Ouyun Ding. Charlie is a graduate from the University of Science and Technology of China. Following, Charlie moved to Columbus in 1988 and received his Masters and PhD from The Ohio State University. He previously worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago and also was a Software Engineer with Chemical Abstracts Service. Most recently, Charlie had been employed as a Software Engineer with Alcatel-Lucent, and also a part time Professor at Franklin University. Charlie was an extremely intelligent man who enjoyed life to the fullest. He had a great sense of humor, outgoing personality, and loved adventure. He always liked to keep active and busy, whether he was traveling, golfing, camping, bicycling, or even training for a marathon. Charlie had been an active volunteer in Chinese community with long services in Ohio Contemporary Chinese School. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Jenny Shu; children, Joshua and Jasmine Shu; parents, Jinlin Xu and Ouyun Ding; siblings, Yuying and Yuchun Xu; and many other extended family members and dear friends. Memorial service will be held at 3 P.M. Saturday, July 21, 2012 at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St., where family will receive friends from 1 P.M. until time of service.
