Christian R. Stanek, age 49 of Columbus, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2019. Chris was born in Columbus and spent the majority of his life here. He graduated from Upper Arlington High School, Class of 1989 and then went on to graduate from The Ohio State University, Class of 1993. While at OSU, Chris earned a degree in Finance and enjoyed time spent working at the OSU Bookstore. Chris was a witty man who possessed a sweet soul and had a great sense of humor; so good in fact some thought he should try his talents at stand-up comedy. He enjoyed working outdoors and did meticulous landscape work. In addition, Chris enjoyed playing the guitar and listening to a wide variety of music genres. John Prine and The Grateful Dead were two of his favorites. Chris was very grateful for the time he spent at the House of Hope where he found much solitude, peace, and support. While living there he enjoyed cooking for the residence and leading the Christmas choir. Chris is preceded in death by his step-father, James R. "Jam" Blum; grandparents, Glenn and Barbara Ross, and uncle, Kenneth Ross. He will be greatly missed by his mother, Judith Blum; his father, Edmund Stanek; sister, Laurel (Chad) Brennan; uncles, Randall (Gail Mezey) Ross; Ronald (Dushka) Ross; Daniel Stanek; former wife, Amy Hawk; and faithful and loving canine companion, Jillian; and other extended family members and friends. A memorial service celebrating Christian's life will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2020, 2pm at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, 2300 Lytham Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to House of Hope Inc., 825 Dennison Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43215 or online at: https://hofhope.org/capital-campaign.
