Clarence Melvin Newman

Clarence "Melvin" Newman, age 90, of Groveport, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2014. He was born in Terra Haute, Indiana on March 23, 1924 to the late Walter and Cora Newman. He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Conrail after many years of dedicated service. He and his late wife, Anna, were foster parents for 25 years for Franklin County Children's Services. In addition to his parents and his wife, Anna, he was preceded in death by children, Bill Newman and Terri James; great grandchildren, Jackson Reeves and Rebecca Gilmore; and siblings, Calvin Newman and Pauline Masterson. Melvin is survived by children, Darlene (Duane) Wegner, Jeff (Carolyn Jean) Newman, Chris Newman, and Monica Newman; 16 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; sister, Eleanora Choulat; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 from 6:00PM-8:00PM at the SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 East Livingston Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43232. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 11:00AM at the Greencastle Bible Church, 2940 Amanda Northern Road, Carroll, Ohio 43112. Pastor Charles Flesher officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Hills Memory Gardens, Canal Winchester, Ohio.
