

He was married to Betty Lou Osborn in 1950, and they lived together in Dublin. Together they raised three grateful children and celebrated and doted on their nine grandchildren and their seven great grandchildren.
Clayton was a 1945 graduate of Dublin High School and served in the U.S. Navy immediately after high school, helping end World War II. He returned to attend and graduate from the Ohio State University in both 1950 with his undergraduate degree, and again in 1952 from the Ohio State University Law School.
He practiced law from 1952 through 1970, serving as a prosecuting attorney, and then partnering with John Chester at Chester and Rose law offices in downtown Columbus, Ohio. He was elected Domestic Relates judge in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas in 1970, and sat on that bench from 1971 through 1988, when he retired.
Clayton was a member of the Dublin Community Church for 81 years.
He was a charter member of the Kiwanis Club of Dublin, Ohio, and the club's first president in 1961. He remained a member, volunteering annually at the club's Frog Jump through 2018. He was also an active volunteer with the Red Cross, delivering blood to hospitals around the state of Ohio. He was also a member of the Dublin Historical Society, where, among other things, he helped capture and video interviews with long-time Dublin residents.
He was an accomplished bridge player. A member of the American Contract Bridge League, and was a Silver Life Master, He played at the Columbus Bridge Center and the Franklin Club. He also directed the Dublin Community Senior Center Tuesday morning game.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many summers at their cottage on Beaverstone Bay in northern Ontario.
Clayton was honored as the 1985 Grand Leprechaun at the Dublin St. Patrick's Day celebration and was also among the first inductees into the Dublin Schools Hall of Fame.
Preceded in death by his parents and Betty, as well as his sister Carol Scott and brother Donald G Rose, he is survived by his sister Barbara Rose Headlee, sister-in-law Robin Lee Rose, children Clayton III (Lynn) of Dublin, Phyllis (Mark) Tudi of Phoenix, Arizona, and Lind (Jeff) Dayhuff of Newark, Ohio, his grandchildren Courtney (Troy) McClymonds, Abby (John) Mexicott, Kyle (Erin) Tudi, Alex (Rachel) Rose, Amelia (Phillip) Sacco, Erin (Seth) Lewis, Karlee Tudi, Lea (Alex) Gourley, and Alli Dayhuff, and his great-grandchildren Cole Mexicott, Chelsea Rose, Finley McClymonds, Ryan Mexicott, Emily Rose, Alana Sacco, Stephen Lewis.
Many thanks to granddaughter Karlee who was his primary care giver over the past several months.
The family will receive friends at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road on Friday, November 30, 2018 from 4-7pm. A funeral service celebrating Clayton's life will be held at the Dublin Community Church, 81 West Bridge Street, Dublin, on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 2pm. Interment will follow at Dublin Cemetery.
