

Clyde L. Cook, 75, of Circleville, died August 17, 2011 at the Pickering House in Lancaster Ohio. He was born August 29, 1935 in Pickaway County. Clyde graduated from Circleville High School in 1953. In 1959, Clyde obtained his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tri- State College. There are many words to describe Clyde. Caring, humble, and driven are the first to come mind. Clyde was a hard worker driven to exceed in life. Clyde put himself through college by driving a semi truck. He worked as a general manager at Clifton Motors for 30 years becoming a charter member of the Cadillac Crest Club and the Oldsmobile Vanguard “elite’ Club. After leaving the motor business, Clyde found himself eager to begin his own business. In 1989, Clyde being driven by faith founded and established Pickaway Plains Ambulance Service, Inc. He devoted his life so that others may live. In 2006, Clyde made the decision to sell his business as his health began to fail.
Clyde was active within the Community. He was a member, past trustee, and past Sunday School teacher at the Community United Methodist Church. Clyde served as Circleville Township Trustee for eight years. He was a past Chairman of the Pickaway County Board of Health Advisory Council, past President of the Pickaway County Trustees, past director of Pickaway County Chamber of Commerce, and past member and President of the Pickaway County Historical Society. Additionally, Clyde served on the Circleville Township Zoning Committee, Republican Central Committee, Ohio Ambulance Association, a Gideon, and many other numerous committees within Pickaway County. Clyde was active in many fraternal organizations. Clyde was a member of the Pickaway Lodge No. 23 Free and Accepted Masons; Scioto Valley Scottish Rite; Aladdin Shrine Temple; Aladdin Provost Unit; Pickaway Shrine Club; and El Hajj. He was also a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
Clyde was a faithful father and loving husband. Clyde married the love of his life Elaine Woodward in 1956. The two spent 55 years together and had three children: Cindy (Jon) Kinney, Gary Lee (Sherri) Cook, and Douglas (Heidi) Cook. Also in the Center of his world were Clyde’s 11 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Clyde also fostered a child: Cynthia Krahn. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Ruby (Thorton) Cook; Sister, Sis {Lois} (Pete) Wadlington; and Brother Gary Lee Cook. Clyde is survived by his wife; children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; Brother: Jack (Nita) Cook; Sister Brenda (David) Cupp; nieces and nephews; his mother in law: Hazel Woodward; and sister in law: Judy (Gary) George. Funeral Services will be held at DEFENBAUGH-WISE SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, 151 E. Main St., on Saturday August 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. A Masonic Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. prior to the Funeral and a graveside service will follow at Forest Cemetery. Friends and Family may call on Friday August 19, 2011 from 1:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made in memory of Clyde to Community United Methodist Church, Outreach Ministries and Ohio Christian University. Clyde is loved and will be missed by his family and friends. He was humble man who never bragged nor made known his merits known to others.
