1935-2020
Loyal, loving, devoted and trustworthy are words that defined this wonderful man during his 84 years. On Friday October 9th, Dan passed on and up to a better place, after several years of disabling physical and cognitive decline. Dan is survived by Hope (Hopwood), his wife of 64 years, a daughter, Diane Axline Dumbach (Joseph), two sons, Bradley Axline (Meredith) and Brent Axline (Jenifer). He is also survived by a brother, Robert Axline, as well as seven grandchildren:
Kaleigh Dumbach-Fusco, Colin Dumbach, Cade Axline, Annika and Devon Axline, Lleyton and Luke Axline
After completing ROTC with distinction and graduating from The Ohio State University in 1958, Dan served as a Lieutenant for three years in the U.S. Army. For the remainder of his career he worked for a single employer, the Standard Oil Company (Sohio), later BP of America. He retired in the early 1990s.
Coaching youth teams, making dogs a part of his family, and advocating for any interest or aspiration his children wanted to pursue in education, sports, or the arts --- Dan enabled it all.
As for matters of human relationships, a motto by which Dan lived, and often conveyed to his children, was "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything." Humankind would experience less conflict and more peace by an injection of character traits that Dan exemplified.
