Darrell Dante Thomas

Darrell D. Thomas Sr., age 90, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2015. Survived by his second wife of 12 years, Mary Sauter-Thomas; son Tim Thomas and his wife Amy Thomas; stepdaughter Denise Moomey, and her husband James; stepson, Fred Sauter; daughter-in-law, Bess Thomas; grandchildren, Ken Huffman, Bob Huffman, Darrell Lee Thomas and his wife Cindy, Brooke Thomas, Bree (Thomas) Twynham and her husband Jake Twynham and Brock Thomas and his wife Mindy and several great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by first wife of 50 years, Garnet (Gibson) Thomas, four brothers, one sister, son Darrell Thomas Jr. and daughter, Donna (Thomas) Huffman. Born September 20, 1924 in Princeton, WV and raised in Hellier, KY. US Navy 3rd Class Petty Officer 1943-1946, served aboard LST 5 during WW II and was involved in the D-Day invasion at Normandy. Returned to KY following the war and worked for the Birchfield Coal Mining Company until 1951 when he moved to Columbus, OH. Worked for and retired from the Central Ohio Transit Authority (1953-1986). Was elected President of Transport Workers Union Local # 208 serving from 1968-1972. Friends may call 6-8 pm Wednesday, May 27th at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL1051 E. Johnstown RD. (at Beecher RD) Gahanna where funeral service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, May 28, 2015. Andrew Hoover officiating. Interment at Union Cemetery.
