Dave was judged some of the starters classes at the first K9 Sports trial down in Franklin, TN back when my rat terrier Zip and I were young and green. Instead of taking a winged jump because Zip ran so close to me, he wedged himself between two of the upright/verticle metal bars that made the wing. It was like Zip thought they were snug weave poles. I looked at Judge Dave with my mouth agape, not knowing what to do. He covered his eyes with a hand and turned away, trying not to laugh.

I first met Dave before BRAG came into being when he was my instructor for a class at CATC. It is very hard to accept that Dave is no longer with us when he has been such a central figure in agility for so long. I will really miss him. Dave was always supportive of me and kind to my dogs. I hope that he knew how much we all loved and respected him in the agility community.   Mary 

Dave was the only one of my agility friends who would greet me with a "Hi Willy", as used by Mary.  I didn't object.  He was great company and we shared many laughs, especially when building and walking courses.  I'll miss him.  Bill

I did not know Dave through the agility but through my sister who was a member of Brag and friends with Dave.  His kindness and helpfulness spread beyond the agility courses.  From my encounters with Dave, he was kind, funny and helpful in life.  From what I have read, all his friends were very blessed to have him in their lives.  Now Heaven is blessed with his presence.  He is with his maker.  My prayers to God will ask for comfort and strength and peace in the hearts of Dave's family and his many friends .

Dave and I started agility together about 25 years ago taking our first agility class at Columbus All Breed with his Rott Heidi and my sheltie Bartles. We have worked many trials together in the last 25 years at various clubs, he will be missed greatly for all his hard work and his love for his dogs.

I met Dave years ago when he worked as a contractor at Nationwide.  I was pleasantly surprised to see a familiar and supportive face when I found my way to agility and to Brag.   Dave was always very supportive of all the dogs.  He worked hard and he loved agility.  Brag won't be the same without him.  He will be missed.  Deepest condolences to his family.

I was so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. He was a great judge and a great person. He worked hard at every trial he was at, and gave it his all when he ran his dogs. 
I’m sure Dave is organizing agility trials in heaven with all the dogs at the Rainbow Bridge having fun running his courses.

I met Dave at Capital Area Humane Society.  Memories of a few exceptional volunteers will always be with me, and Dave was one of those exceptional people. I have known Dave for many years and have always had a special place in my heart for him. He reminded me of my own brother in looks, mannerisms and in his sense of humor. Any show that he was at was brighter for me whether judging or competing. I will miss you, but will not forget you Dave. You have touched so many lives.

I can't say I knew Dave, but I do have fond memories, thanks to him. At my very first trial, with my first agility dog, Fagin, on our very first run, Dave was our judge. And we Q'ed! That was in October, 1997. Three weeks later, we earned our first title, and Dave was also our judge.

I knew Dave for many years. He was one of my first instructors and later we served on the bod together. The image of him I will never forget was during a BRAG trial when we were suddenly hit with tornado force winds and rain and hail. He ran through the wind and rain to gather up my three dogs and bring them under the main tent. I will not forget that act of kindness.

Dave was a gift to many and touched many hearts.  Over the years we have known him, we have been very fortunate to call him "friend".  Rest in peace friend, your work here is done.  Give our furkids a hug and love them for us until we meet again on the other side.

I was so sorry to hear of Dave's passing.  As a judge he was so friendly (with tricky, but fun courses) and worked tirelessly.  Watching him with his dogs it was so apparent that he loved them beyond words.  He will be sorely missed and remembered fondly.

I met Dave in January 2007 after moving back to Columbus. My first memories were just soaking in all of the knowledge he had around the sport of agility. Then after a year of being a mentor to me we became friends. We would take our dogs hiking and swimming and Dave always had a great story to tell. I will always admire Dave for the time and sacrifices he made for his dogs and others. Dave was one of the hardest workers I’ve ever known, it seems like at a BRAG Trial he was the first person there and the last one to leave. We had such a great time at CPE Nationals this past June, he was so happy and that is how I will always remember him.

Dave was the third member of the D.A.M.Team, Hells Belles, several years back. My daughter and her dog were also on the team. Beth was under 21 at the time. Dave was so encouraging and helpful to her. Dave was always helping at trials, always jumping in when needed.  He loved his dogs, and doing agility with them. The agility community is better because Dave was a big part of it. He will be missed by many.

Dave really was a wonderful guy to both people and dogs.  He was also the world's best course setter.  Ages ago Dave willingly gave up the possiblilty of a pairs Q with his Diva so me and my mini dog would have a pairs partner.

I was talking with Dave in Minnesota at the CPE Nationals in June.  He agreed to help me with the CPE Nationals in 13.  We also laughed about his trips to Medina to qualify his girl for the Nationals, a long drive for one class a day.  That was Dave.  I know he was the heart of BRAG, and will be missed by so many.  His friendship is one of the fondest memories of agility that I will carry on.  Run clean buddy, your rescues, your smile, your friendship will carry on.

Dave was hard on the outside but a gentle soul when it came to the agility family. Dave was always there to teach and we always learned something new from him at every agility trial. The last trial we were joking about our new aqcuisitions and were saying what were we thinking, we just have to try harder. As a judge he apologized to me when my dog stressed out and I took him off the course because he wasn't focused, he knew I was upset and worried that my dog shut down, remarked "nice try, now go play with your dog and try again".  Go play and fly with the dogs at the bridge.

I met Dave when I started agility at BRAG with my Sheltie, Killian.  Killian doesn't trust men easily and Dave worked and worked for years to get my shy Sheltie to say hi to him.  Most of the time it was just a quiet "hi Killian" as we stood there talking to each other.  Eventually all the effort paid off and Killian decided that he wasn't such a bad guy after all.  Dave became one of Killian's favorite people at BRAG and that is saying a lot for my shy Sheltie.

Dave was always there for a word of encouragement or advice on how to fix something that didn't work.  Most importantly he was there if you needed someone to talk to as I found out when a family member of mine was ill.

He was a true friend.  Always willing to help those in need.  He was always there for us at BRAG.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

I met Dave years ago at a BRAG trial.  We shared the love of rescue dogs.  Dave genuinely cared about the sport, the people and the dogs. He will be greatly missed.

Dave was one of the greats in the sport of agility.  He gave so much to the sport.  Liane posted a video of him on facebook showing his run at CPE Nationals this year.  It is evident in watching the video what a patient and gentle soul he was with his animals.  Dave was one of those individuals that worked tirelessly at trials so we all could enjoy stepping to the line with our dogs. We will sincerely miss seeing Dave and his dogs out on course.

Dave helped my dogs with their various issues too many times to count. The result was that my boys adored him, even my littlest who is normally very shy of men. They routinely dragged me over to his post just outside the BRAG door, wriggling with delight, expecting - and receiving - rubs, scratches, and love. He was an extraordinarily patient man and a true humanitarian.

I didn't know Dave except in his role as a Dog Agility judge. He was in fact one of the first judges we ever showed under. Not knowing Dave did not stop him from making us feel like what we were doing was important to him, no matter how badly we performed, and no matter how hot or rainy it was. I will always be grateful for the support he showed us, and his contribution to the identity of our sport. I will continue to remember him fondly.

As were so many others, my life was touched by Dave through agility.  I always admired Dave for his dedication to his friends and his dogs....anyone in need, human or canine, caught Dave's eye and received his care.  Bless you, Dave, for all of the kindness that you extended to so many people through your life...I always smiled when I saw you and I will always smile when I remember you.  We are missing you so much.

I met Dave approximately 12 years ago; it was when BRAG classes were in at the fairgrounds in Hilliard.  It was my very first agility class (EVER) with Megan, and she simply couldn't keep her nose off the dirt (first time on dirt).  I picked her up after every sequence, and about mid-way through class,  I remember him telling me I needed to socialize her ... I just couldn't tell him that she was finding the the smells more interesting that me   

Over the years, Dave became a friend and when I told him I wasn't sure I was ready to move to judge masters, he just gave me that look of 'why the heck not'?  That look gave me the confidence I needed.  I learned a lot from Dave--while judging with him I enjoyed his humor, and learned so much just from talking with him.  

Thank you, Dave, for sharing your talents and time with us; you will be missed in so many ways.

I have known Dave for years.  We developed BRAG together over 16 years ago. I think I can safely say that BRAG would not have come about so easily if not for Dave.  We have been through a lot of ups and downs together at BRAG. His influence on agility in Central Ohio in particular is very vast.

My husband and I tease that our house is The House That Dave Built because there literally isn't a room that he hasn't repaired or built something in. Each room reminds me of him and all of the emergencies he has dealt with for us.  I have even had him stop by for what turned out to be just changing a light bulb for me :-). And though I'm sure he thought it he never actually told me that day that I was a dope.

The thing I am most grateful to Dave for has happened recently.  My son is working on his Eagle project for Boy Scouts.  He plans to lay ceramic tile in an area for the local YMCA. He first  asked Dave for some background information. Since then Dave has helped him with this project with many, many hours of his time and experience.  He donated an entire weekend to Drew by teaching him to tile our laundry room. Dave was going to be one of the people helping with the project when it came time to do it. Just like every other day now he will be missed but his presence will be felt.  Drew is dedicating his project to Dave's memory.

Thank you Dave for many years.  I wish we had more.  My condolences to his family.

I casually knew Dave through friends before I moved to Columbus 6 yrs ago with my 80 yr old mother.   Shortly after the move I was having to make frequent trips to Cleveland.  On the drive up to Cleveland there was a bad storm and my mother called me to let me know that there was a leak in the roof.  I called one of my friends and Dave just happened to be working at her house.  Without even being asked,  Dave left there to go and check on my house and my mother because that was the kind of person he was.....   

Dave was always helpful to me as a new agility person.  He was always there to encourage me or just tease me about how bad I had done.   He was ALWAYS there when it came to his agility group.  

He will be.... is....   missed!

Dave was one of my favorite judges because he truly loved the sport, the dogs, and the people involved. I watched him tirelessly give of himself at BRAG trials and then turn around and run his dogs with a huge smile on his face. I love the photos that Mike Lifer took a few weeks ago. That's how I will remember Dave. Many prayers for family and friends as they go through this difficult time.
