

David Watts Ely, age 85, passed away, Saturday, December 31, 2011 at the Bon-Ing Care Center.. He was born September 18, 1926 at the old Mercy Hospital in Columbus, OH. Preceded in death by his devoted wife and best friend of 61 years, Barbara Jean Harper Ely; parents, Clarence and Sara (Watts) Ely; sister, Mary Ann Goble O’Conner, all of Grove City, OH. Survived by their children, Mark (Elin Jensen) Ely of Jacksonville, FL, Diane (Stephen) Smith of Walling TN, and Linda (William III) Belz of Gahanna, OH; grandchildren, Trisha (George Bridges) Smith of Chucky, TN, Daniel Smith of Fairborn, OH, Stephanie and Katherine Belz of Gahanna, OH. 1944 graduate of West High School attended The Ohio State University and served in the U.S. Army in World War II as an instructor. Retired from North American Rockwell (now Boeing) after 34 years where he retired as a Logistics Supervisor and member of the Management Club. He was a Boy Scout leader for several years. First member of the Gahanna Senior Center, where he taught bridge, chaired Monday afternoon bridge, and wrote the Bridge Page in the monthly newsletter for many years. 60 year member of Mason at Southgate Lodge and Canal Winchester. He and wife Barbara were volunteers at Grant Medical Center for 5 years. David was an avid fan of The Ohio State University football team and Marching Band. Friends may call from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown RD. (at Beecher RD.) Gahanna. A Masonic service will be held during calling hours at 11:45 am. The memorial service will begin at 12:00 pm. Celebrant Mark Dettmer officiating. Inurnment at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
