

David W. Stout, age 76, of Lewis Center, Ohio and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, passed away on August 5, 2018 after a nine-month long battle with non-smoking lung and pancreatic cancer. He was born on February 2, 1942 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Lee and Rita Stout. Dave was a proud 1960 graduate of Toledo DeVilbiss High School and attended The Ohio State University. He began his career as a manager at SOHIO and was involved in various business ventures over his lifetime including the former Town and Country Car Wash on Kenny Rd., Timber Lanes in Marysville, Urbana Lanes in Urbana, and Moneysworth Mortgage Services in Lewis Center. He is survived by his wife of 57 years and high school sweetheart, Sallie; sons Todd (Bonnie), Mark (Leesa), and Matt; and grandchildren Alex and Lauren Stout, and Adam Motz. Dave was preceded in death by his brother William (Chris); survived by his brother Michael (Laura) and twin sisters Rebecca (Lyman) and Victoria (Richard). He chaired the DeVilbiss High School Alumni Tiger Plaza Project in 2003 raising over $215,000 in connection with the creation of a new tiger plaza at the Toledo Zoo. Dave was an avid cyclist after riding in his first Pelotonia at the age of 68, logging over 840 miles in Pelotonia from 2010-2017 and logging another 700 miles in the Pan Mass Challenge on rides from 2013-2016. On those rides, he raised over $45,000 in the fight against cancer. He was also actively involved in North Columbus Sports baseball for 15 years, including serving as a coach and the 11-12-year old league commissioner from 1972-1985, where he always had a rulebook in his back pocket. Dave was affiliated with Upper Arlington High School Wrestling over a span of 36 years, founding the Upper Arlington Wrestling Booster Club in 1986, serving as the program's video technician from 1984-1990, program/yearbook editor from 1986-1991, and as the Voice of the Golden Grapplers from 1985-1990 and from 2011 until his passing. He will be remembered for many things including his great sense of humor, fiery personality, and trademark delivery announcing the word "sophomore."
