Porter Newton, age 93 of Columbus, passed away Monday, October 19, 2009. U.S. Army WWII Veteran where he earned numerous meritorious awards from the U.S. Army for the prosecution of war criminals. Porter had a very long and distinguished career as head legal counsel for the Defense Department where he served for over 30 years. He truly enjoyed golf, and was a founding member of the Highlands Golf Club, Pataskala. Preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Newton, and brother, Harry D. Newton. Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. Friday, October 23, 2009 at SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E. Livingston Ave. Graveside services will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Alabama at a later date.
