

Born January 24, 1935, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Jean moved to Columbus, Ohio, in 1956 but never lost her love of her Southern culture and roots. She loved going back “home.”
Jean’s faith was the cornerstone of who she was. Jean became a Catholic in her twenties and took her faith seriously. She hosted Bible studies in her home and was active in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. Jean worked for many years at Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital. Jean was known for her love of beauty; she appreciated beautiful art, beautiful music, and beautiful places, especially the ocean. She and her husband, Lany, loved to vacation at Carolina Beach.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Gladys Crumpler, her siblings, Bobby Crumpler, Billy Crumpler, and Gail Pruitt. She is survived by her devoted husband, Leandro (Lany) Tapay, her brother, Jerry Crumpler, her four children, Glenda (Patrick) Crawford, Rhonda (Bob) Selhorst, Russell (Taryn) Thibaut, and Randy (Kim) Thibaut. She will be missed by her 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren (with number 20 on the way!).
Visitation will be held at St. Josephine Bakhita Parish, 6077 Sharon Woods Blvd, Columbus, OH 43229, US, on July 9, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at the same location from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Inurnment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, 9571 N High St, Lewis Center, OH 43035, US, on July 9, 2026.
