Dennis J. Lyons

Dennis Joseph James Lyons, (Pops, GPops, Gee Gee, Dog, Wags) born August 29, 1955 to the late James and Florence Lyons, in Columbus, Ohio. Dennis passed away January 20, 2025, at The James Cancer Hospital, after bravely fighting Leukemia, surrounded by all who loved him the most. He is predeceased by his parents, his daughters, Nicole Marie and Michele Kay Lyons; his brother, James; sisters, Kathy Redifer and Terri Lyons; his in-laws, Henry and Margaret Atwell, sisters-in-law, Phyllis Nester, Sue Slagle and Patricia Degler. He is survived by his wife of over 47 years, Mari (Atwell) Lyons; his sons, Jim (Megan), Dan (Ashley), and Kyle Lyons; grandchildren and the loves of his life, James Michael, Kylan Daniel, Kade Joseph and Aínslee Victoria Lyons; brothers Pat (Debbie) and Tom (Jim Mosier) Lyons; sister Elizabeth Lyons and sisters-in-law, Debi Marshall, Peggy (Don) Potter; brothers-in-law, Allen Nester and Tim Redifer; nephews, Kevin Redifer, Joe Mosier Lyons, Carl (Katie) Slagle, Brian and Chris (Vanessa) Potter, Ron (Angie) Nester; nieces, Marsha (Anthony) Sheppard, Kimberly (Gregg) Franks, Stephanie (Andy) Pheasant, Megan (Sean) Loyd, Kelly Redifer, Tracy (Jonathan) Wheeler, and Erin (Cory) Tinkham, aunts, Lauretta Stueve and Maryann Gochenour, numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews and best friend, Ralph Frair.

Dennis spent many years coaching the youth in Whitehall in Basketball and Baseball and volunteering for numerous functions in the community and the local schools. The best times of his life was being able to enjoy many years playing softball with his sons and numerous young men he had coached in the past, winning many leagues and tournaments year after year. He found so much enjoyment in his grandchildren, being able to enjoy coaching and school events with them. He was so proud of every one of them. An avid Buckeye, Dodgers and Raiders fan. Past President of the Knights of St. John’s.

Family will receive friends 2-6 pm Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Schoedinger East, 5360 E. Livingston Ave. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Monday, January 27, 2025 at

St. Catharine Roman Catholic Church, 500 S. Gould Rd. Columbus, OH 43209.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Dennis’ memory.
