Dolores Devine returned to our heavenly Father on April 10, 2015 after being lovingly cared for by the devoted staff of Mother Angeline McCrory Manor. The oldest daughter of Timothy, "TJ," and Mary Irene (Flynn) Devine's four children, Dolores was born in Worcester, MA on May 26, 1931. Dolores called Jamaica, NY home for 50 years where she graduated from The Mary Louis Academy and St. John's University with a Bachelor's in Business Administration. For more than 20 years, she pursued a career in statistical marketing research, proudly working for Nielsen, The Reader's Digest, and Ebony Magazine. Her second career was as an administrator for St. John's University School of Law for another 10 years where she had more laughs and fun than anyone thought possible at such a serious institution of learning! Driven by a love for her only child, Michelle (Devine) Reese, she relocated to Worthington, OH in 1995 to join Michelle and her beloved son-in-law, Jim Reese. In Columbus, she held five jobs after "retirement" because of her unending energy and desire to serve others-and to contribute to the economy with her employee discount. Dolores's love for Jim and Michelle was only equaled by the new joy she found in grandchildren! Dolores held each of her four grandchildren in her arms and her heart: Jack Timothy, 15; Nickolas Anthony, 13; Morgan Mary, 10; and Natalie Antonia Dolores, 8, will miss their Nana greatly. Dolores is also survived by cousins Eleanor Ann McCarthy, Charles Gilhooly, and Barbara Joan (Donovan) Ruggiero; brother Walter Devine; nieces Lorri (Devine) Geerinck, Jeanne Devine, Tara (Devine) Kilmartin, and Melissa Devine; nephews Steve, Bob, and Mike Devine; the extended Reese family; and her Catholic faith community at St. Thomas More Newman Center. Those who knew Dolores witnessed how she loved others with a servant's heart. She was a constant source of aid and comfort to the sick and elderly, most profoundly postponing college to care for her mother for 10 years. Whether moving a hot dog vendor's cart to make room for her car, taking in any stray cat or dog that came her way, or practicing public speaking with her Dale Carnegie Alumni Association chapter, Dolores was warm, funny, silly, resourceful, determined, helpful, confident, and courageous. She will be missed desperately by her daughter, until they meet again. Calling hours and a prayer service will be held at Mother Angeline McCrory Manor, 5199 E Broad St., Columbus, OH, 43213, on Friday, April 17, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Visitation at the Newman Center on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. precedes her funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Newman Center, 64 W Lane Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43201. Donations can be made to Mother Angeline McCrory Manor at the address above or to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org/centralohio or 1379 Dublin Rd., Columbus, OH, 43215.
