

Don Robert Gepfert, CLU, ChFC, age 83, former 40 year resident of Upper Arlington, died Tuesday, September 8, at his residence in Marble Cliff surrounded by his family. Born June 29, 1932, in Strasburg, OH, to the late Robert A. and Bertha Hartline Gepfert. Preceded in death by sister-in-law Betty Erdman. Survived by college sweetheart and wife of 61 years Donna; daughters Debra (Eric) Showe, Cindy Sue Gepfert, both of Columbus; and son Robert (Kathleen) Gepfert of Mason, OH; and their children Collin and Diandra Showe; Lauren Gepfert; and step-grandson Alex Pomeraning; sister Glenna Ellwood; nephew Steve (Donna) Ellwood, and niece Sally McCarty, and their children Hannah, Jake, and Stephanie (Aaron), all of Georgia; brother-in-law Fred (Sandy) Erdman of Estero, FL; nieces Julie (Tom) Rae, Shelly Strachan, Lisa (Bob) Dreste, Anne Strachan, and their six children, all of New York. He cherished his relationships with his Church Couples Circle #40, The Upper Arlington Rotary Club, Scioto Country Club, Stonebridge Country Club, Naples, FL and the numerous insurance associates and clients. He graduated from Heidelberg College where he played football and was a member of Tower Men. Veteran of the US Army serving at Ft. Benning for two years. 48 year career with New York Life Insurance Co. where he was a life member of the Million Dollar Roundtable and a member of the Hall of Fame of the Columbus Chapter of the CLU and ChFC. Former Governing board member, search committee member, and nominating committee of First Community Church and former board member of the American Cancer Society, Franklin Co. Unit. Volunteered as Big Brother. He was an avid tennis player and golfer. Family will receive friends 4-7pm Friday, September 18, in the Weist Room of First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd where a Memorial service will be at 2pm Sunday, September 20. Immediately following will be a celebration of his life at Scioto Country Club, 2196 Riverside Dr. Arrangements by the Schoedinger Northwest Chapel.
