

Donald Anthony “Tony” Cass aged 80, passed away surrounded by family on January 30, 2025 at home. He was born on December 27, 1944 in Salem, Oregon to Don and Rose Cass. Tony grew up in Beaver City, Nebraska and was the Senior Class President of the Beaver City High School Class of 1963. Tony was a member of the University of Nebraska ROTC program and was commissioned and served in the Armor Division of the United States Army from 1969 to 1971. He earned the National Defense Service Medal. He returned to the University of Nebraska and graduated in 1972 with a degree in Business Administration. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity during his time at the University of Nebraska. Tony worked in Cost Accounting for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington, DC. He was then an Auditor for the Office of Child Support Enforcement in Denver, Colorado and then Supervisory Auditor for the Office of Child Support Enforcement in Columbus, Ohio. Tony married Patty on November 28, 1987 in Columbus, Ohio.
Tony was a well-respected coin dealer who was known within the hobby for his willingness to share his expertise through displays, presentations and grading seminars. He was a founding member of the Central Ohio Numismatic Association (CONA), and served during his numismatic career as a professional evaluator for ANACS coin-grading service and a values analyst for Coin World magazine. Tony shared his love for coins, for bridge, for genealogy but especially for his family. Tony and Patty enjoyed traveling, especially around Florida in January, February and March when it was cold in Ohio.
Tony is survived by his wife Patricia Joan “Patty” (Real) Cass of 37 years, his brother Wendel Luis Cass; his daughters Candace Wyant, Tammra Straughter; his step-daughters Rebecca Werth (Brian), Sara Beam (Jeffrey); his grandchildren Zachary Wyant, Quenten Wyant (Danielle), Arianna Wyant, Tierney Wyant, Alexander Straughter (Caroline), Celeste Loper (Nate), Jillian Straughter, Rowan Straughter, Emmerson Straughter, Harper Straughter; his step-grandchildren Liam Seabolt, Kiera Seabolt, Audrey Beam, Charlotte Beam, Louis Beam; and his great-grandchildren Lacey Wyant, Mazie Wyant, Tai’Lani Wyant, Bennett Straughter, Hudson Straughter, Aubrey Loper, Arielle Loper, Alayah Loper, Andrew-James Loper; and many close friends.
Tony is preceded in death by his parents Donald Edward Cass and Alma Rose (Babcock) Cass; and his sister Patricia Jo Ann Cass.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at 5:00PM at Our Lady of Victory Church at 1559 Roxbury Rd in the Parish Life Center. The funeral service will be held following the visitation at 6:15PM in the church.
