I just found out about Don's passing, and am saddened by it.  I worked for him at the Division of Fire and just loved that guy!  He had high integrity, an amazing work ethic, and a positive attitude about life.  I enjoyed his and Mert's travel "system"...going alphabetically.  Just with they could have gotten to the "Cs" at least!  He was a fine man who loved the Lord.

Rip sonny i have so many fond memories of him and mert. I loved to go to her shop and to ask him questions about being a firefighter. Even thou i wasjust a little girl he inspired me to become an volunteer firefighter i always looked up to him and uncle don. Im sorry we lost touch, but the warner family will always hold a very special place in my heart.

He was a Firefighters Chief,I will never forget when he came in to ride on Wednesday nights and jumped on E-16 and said which mask can I have on the way to a working fire. You will NEVER find a better Firefighter first then your boss in America. The D'Andrea Family

I have known the Werner family my whole life, starting at the Gates-Fourth Methodist Church. As the Fire Chief Don made everyone feel like he had known them forever as well. I enjoyed working under him. He was a good man. My condolences to the family, he will be missed.

The best Fire Chief the Columbus Fire dept ever had and it was an honor and privilege to have known him.

I always had a great deal of respect for Chief Werner - from the time I purchased a bicycle from him with paper route money at age 12 - to my many Fire Division dealings with him. A man among men who left things better than he found them.

It was an honor for my father,
Carl, and myself to work under the leadership of Chief Werner.                                                                        How did he remember all of our names ?

Chief Werner may have retired from Columbus Fire, but he never left it. You could count on his attendance at every major fire division function. Many retired firemen are in Florida for the 4-Unit picnic, where Don Werner's life will be the main topic of conversation as well as having an official moment of silence for him and his family. Everyone knows that Chief Werner knew who you were and the reverse is just as true.

Chief Werner was a firefighters, Chief. Once he met you he never forgot your name. He would work all day then come out and ride with his men on the apparatus. Not only was he respected, he was loved by his men. One of the last of a dying breed. R.I.P. I,ll see you on the big one.

Chief Werner was an inspiration to all of the members of the department.  He was known for spending a night at every fire station and taking runs with the crews.  We were all surprised when the Executive Officer arrived and knew each of us by name!  Rest in Peace, Chief.   Your legacy will live on in the Columbus Division of Fire.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the Werner Family.  May God comfort you and keep you, and give you His peace during your time of loss.

I wish I could and be up there with my Brothers and Sisters from CFD and pay my respect to him, he thought me a lot of things about the fire service. he is a good man I remember going to White Castles at Greenlawn and High with my grandfather Capt Pritsel and having lunch with him. RIP Chief you are a goon friend.

We are so sad to hear of Don's passing.  He was a great man and we enjoyed spending time with Don and Myrt.  May he Rest in Peace.
