Donna Mae Craig Stoner passed away early Sunday morning, April 12 at age 95. She is survived by her three children - Michael D Stoner (Debra) of Hilliard, Susan S Ells (George Jr) of Grandview, and Diane C Stoner (Daniel Hudock) of Grove City – as well as 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Donna was born Sep. 1, 1930, to Kenneth Warren Craig and Gwendola Euphan Hoppes Craig in New Carlisle, OH. She was the oldest of three children, who included Mary Lou Craig Zenisek (Cy) (both deceased) and Warren L. Craig (Sharon).
Donna moved to Columbus after graduating high school, and there she met and married M. Doyle Stoner (West Unity, OH) in 1950. The growing family moved from Clintonville to Upper Arlington in 1968. Doyle was a CPA in private practice, while Donna was a legal secretary. They divorced in 1979.
Donna loved history (WWII and Civil War), reciting poems, and dancing. An avid square dancer and ballroom dancer, it was at a dance in 1989 where she met C. Richard Slagle (Columbus). They became committed partners and companions until his passing in 2023.
In her later years, Donna enjoyed movies, travel, and activities at the UA Senior Center. In 2024 she moved to Harmony Trace Assisted Living in Hilliard, where she lived until her death. The family thanks the Harmony Trace staff for their gracious care of our mother during her stay.
A service for Donna will be held 4:30 pm Friday, April 24 at Schoedinger Northwest in Upper Arlington. Visiting hours will be from 5:30 – 7:00 pm at that location. A private burial service will be held Saturday morning, April 25, in Washington Court House.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Donna’s honor to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (AMDF) (macular.org), to Colony Cats (& Dogs) of Columbus (colonycats.org), or to National Church Residences Foundation (nationalchurchresidences.org/foundation).
