Doris Ann Duffy, age 63, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2010. She was born in Kentucky on April 2, 1946, to Douglas and Mildred Van Hoose and spent her youth in Circleville, Ohio, graduating from Circleville High School. She then returned to Kentucky where she married and raised her family, and spent several years working, eventually owning her own business. Doris then met her current husband, Michael, and the two moved from Lexington, Kentucky to the Columbus area in 1998. Doris was athletic enjoying tennis and golf; she and Michael loved sailing and SCUBA diving throughout the Caribbean. She also loved to play Bridge, a game she was able to enjoy almost daily. Her first love, however, was spending time with her grandchildren, teaching them to play golf and cook. She was known to them as “Granny D,” and she loved to take them swimming and to visit the zoo. Doris was always pleasant, and even through her illness, she never stopped smiling. She will be missed by her family for her comforting presence and helpful advice. She was preceded in death by her father, Douglas Van Hoose; and brother, Keith Van Hoose. She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Michael Duffy; mother, Mildred Van Hoose; sister, Janice Glitt; children, Sherri Damron, and Ryan Roberson; step-children, Shanna Carver, Ryan Duffy, and Derek Duffy; grandchildren, Brandon Hatfield, Erica Bowling, Little Bit Bowling, Eric Duffy, Victoria Duffy, Kayla Damron, and Jack Duffy; and many other family members and friends. A celebration of Doris’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at Grove City United Methodist Church, 2684 Columbus St., Grove City. The family will receive friends from noon until the time of service on Saturday at the church.
