Doris was born on November 21, 1930, in Sunbury, Ohio to Ruth and Percy Downing. She attended Otterbein College and then began her career at State Auto Insurance until her marriage October 1, 1955 to the love of her life, Paul Starlin. Together, they raised two daughters and created a warm and loving home starting in Upper Arlington, eventually moving to Newark, Ohio and finally moving back to UA in 1981.
Doris enjoyed being a volunteer for TWIGS, Buckeye Boys Ranch and The Childhood League. She and Paul shared a love of antiquing, art and travel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Paul; her daughter, Sarah; and her son-in-law, Kevin Maxwell.
She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Maxwell; her grandson, John Maxwell (Brittney); her granddaughter, Sally Fernandez (Willy); and her cherished great-grandchildren, Gus and Grace, who brought immense joy to her later years.
Doris will be remembered for her kindness, steady strength and love for her family.
