Dorothea M. (Wirtz) Rice

Dorothea M. (Wirtz) Rice, age 75, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. She was born on April 4, 1950, in Columbus, Ohio, to Karl and Ruth Wirtz. Dorothea was a proud graduate of West High School, where she participated in band and spent many years working in the billing department at Sears. She was a talented and passionate crafter in her free time, creating beautiful pieces from ceramics, wood, and paint. Known for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor, Dorothea brought joy to those around her. She was an avid NASCAR fan and loved spending time outdoors—especially camping with her grandchildren, fishing from the boat, and taking their cherished annual trips to Canada. Dorothea will be remembered most for her generous heart and unwavering presence in the lives of those she loved. Her caring spirit and warm personality touched many, and she will be deeply missed. Preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Holly, Pat, Susan and Carleen. Survived by her husband of 57 years, Lloyd “Randy” Rice; daughter, Karen (Tim) Schambs and Mike (Karen) Rice; grandchildren, Mitchell Schambs, Jenna Rice, Gabi Roesser, Cameron Schambs, Isabel Rice and Zachary Rice; brothers, Richard and Mike Wirtz; many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 19, 2025 from 6-8:00 pm at Advantage Funeral Home by Schoedinger Hilltop, 3030 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43204. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at 11:30 am in the Chapel of Hope inside Sunset Cemetery, 6959 W. Broad Street, Galloway, Ohio 43119
