Dorothy "Dottie" Tilley lived life entirely on her own terms. She was spirited, outspoken, fiercely independent, and stubborn enough to stand her ground when she believed she was right—a quality her family knew and loved well. Dottie never hesitated to speak her mind, and her quick wit, sharp sense of humor, and unmistakable personality left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Following her retirement from Ernst & Young, Dottie embraced one of her greatest joys: travel. Las Vegas held a special place in her heart, and whether she was sitting at a blackjack table or trying her luck on the slot machines, she was always ready for her next adventure. Even after nearly a decade-long battle with ALS, she refused to let the disease define her. Though it took much of her physical mobility, it never diminished her spirit, determination, or sharp mind. In true Dottie fashion, when she could no longer use her hands to play the slots, she simply used her foot instead.
Dottie found happiness in life's simple pleasures—sunny afternoons on her patio, game shows playing in the background, and the company of her beloved cats, who were spoiled beyond measure and exactly as she intended. A devoted fan, she proudly held season tickets from the inaugural season of the Columbus Blue Jackets and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on her team.
Above all else, Dottie loved her family deeply. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her love for them was unwavering. Her strength, resilience, humor, and unforgettable spirit will continue to live on in the countless stories, memories, and laughter she leaves behind.
Survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah (Paul) Richmond; grandchildren, Amanda (Seth) Carroll; Danielle (Jerrod) Retterer; and Shelby Richmond; great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Luke, Owen, Nora, Lennon and Noah; other relatives and friends.
