

Duane M. Baker, age 80, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2012. He was born in Marysville, Ohio on March 24, 1932. He was preceded in death by his father, Pearl Baker; mother, Freda (nee Schnees) Baker Darling; and father and mother in-law, Loren and Redimpha Russell. He is survived by his loving wife, Elinor M. Baker; sons, Duane M. (Margaret) Baker, Jr. of Chantilly, Virginia, Jon David Baker of Monroe, Utah, and Andrew Lee (Connie) Baker of Oak Hill, Ohio; grandson, Duane M. Baker III of Baltimore, Maryland; granddaughters, Stephanie Baker of Columbus, Ohio and Sarah Fleck of Stoutsville, Ohio; sister in-law,. Verree McClung of Heath, Ohio; brother in-law, Richard Russell of Cardington, Ohio; and nieces and nephews, Michael McClung, Kathy Gilligan, and Sharon Justice, all of Newark, Ohio. Duane retired from Westinghouse after 34 years of dedicated service and served in the United States Air Force. He was a life member of Whitehall Lodge #761 F&AM, Royal Arch Masons of Ohio Westgate Chapter #216, Royal and Select Masons of Ohio Westgate Council #129. Mt. Vernon #1 Commandery Knights Templar, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus-Meritorious Service Award, Achbar Grotto-past member of Clown Unit, and Aladdin Shriners International-Meritorious Service Award. He was also a member of Beacon Chapter #593 Order of the Eastern Star-Past Worthy Patron, Franklin County Memorial Lodge, Hilltop Shrine Club-Past President, Aladdin Shrine Registrar Unit, El Hajj Columbus Caravanserai #5, Dawes Arboretum, and American Legion Post #486. He was an honorary member of Tadmor, Syrian, Al Karan, Antioch, and Zenobia Shrine Temples of Ohio, and Aiea Shrine Club Aloha Temple, Honolulu, Hawaii. He was a past assistant Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop #410. Friends may call on Friday, November 23, 2012 from 6:00PM-8:00PM with Masonic service at 7:30PM at the SCHOEDINGER HILLTOP CHAPEL, 3030 W. Broad St., Columbus, Ohio. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 10:00AM at Parkview United Methodist Church, where he was a longtime member, 344 Algonquin Ave, Columbus, Ohio. Pastor Paul Ernst officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery, Galloway, Ohio. In lieu of flowers donations in Duane’s memory may be made to the Aladdin Shriners Hospital Association for Children (ASHAC), 3850 Steltzer Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43219.
