

Duane E. “Butch” Ellis, age 75, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Mt. Carmel Grove City, after a brave and hard-fought battle with cancer. Born on July 20, 1949, in Lima, Ohio, to Charles and Roweena Ellis, Butch was a proud graduate of Elda High School. He went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Army, dedicating 27 years, 8 months, and 14 days to military service.
Butch was an active member of American Legion Post 164 in Grove City and the 37th Division Veterans Association. He enjoyed life outdoors — riding his motorcycle, mowing the lawn, or working at the city golf course, which he fondly referred to as his source of "play money." In quieter moments, he appreciated a good Rum and Coke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Roweena Ellis, and his beloved granddaughter, Alicia. Survived by his wife of 40 years, Patty Ellis; children, Angie (Tom) Beckman; Anne (Justin) Fedele; Natalie Burwell and Rebecca (Jeff) Burwell; grandchildren, Gabriel, Hannah, Sullivan and Asher; great grandsons, Steven, Connor and Thomas; siblings, David (Lynette) Ellis and Tirzah Beall; many other relatives and friends. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Sunset Cemetery, 6959 W. Broad Street, Galloway, Ohio 43119 with a Celebration of Life to follow at the American Legion Post 164, 3363 McDowell Road, Grove City, Ohio 43123 with Chaplain Len Stayton officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Tunnel of Towers Foundation or the Zangmeister Cancer Center for Leukemia Research
