

Duncan ("Butch") Hill Campbell, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, died unexpectedly from respiratory failure during the early morning hours of Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at his home in Winter Haven, FL. Butch enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest.
Born in Newark, OH on February 15, 1936, Butch spent most of his formative years in Upper Arlington, OH and lead the Golden Bears as Captain and Quarterback of the football team. Later, during college at The Ohio State University, he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity as well as the honorary society, SPHINX. In the fall of 2008, Butch celebrated his 50-year alumnus status with the University.
Wed to his childhood sweetheart, Jane Pearce, since 1959, Butch and Jane marked their Golden 50th Anniversary this past May, with a family celebration at the Cherry Valley Lodge in Ohio.
Upon Graduation from OSU in 1958, he began his 33-year career with the Ohio Bell Telephone Company, starting as a Sales Representative in Columbus and rising through the ranks to become General Marketing Manager and Vice President of Sales in Cleveland, OH. In 1983, he was appointed President of Ohio Bell Communications, the position from which he retired in 1990. He also served as an Officer in the United States Army from 1959-1965.
During his service with the Bell System, Butch was also an active member in the communities in which he lived, including the American Red Cross, United Way, Ohio Chamber of Commerce, Masons, Ohio State University Alumni Association and President’s Club, Beta Theta Pi Alumni Association, the First Congregational Church of Hudson, the Country Club of Hudson, Lake Region Country Club and First Community Church, where both he and Jane grew up. While wintering in Florida for the past 10 years, they also attended Hope Presbyterian Church in Winter Haven, FL.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Kathryn and Russell Campbell, sister Sally Adkins, as well as mother-in-law, Isabelle "Issy" Pearce. He is survived by his sister Gloria Logan (Dick), his loving wife Jane, children Craig Campbell (Brad Trees), Christopher Campbell (Kathy) and Jennifer Peterson (Chris), along with grandchildren Duncan & Mackenzie Campbell, and Isabelle, Amelia & Harrison Peterson; and many nieces and nephews.
A "Celebration of Life" service will be held at the Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, on Saturday, November 14 at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Jim Long officiating.
