

Edward T. Hicks, age 83, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2009 at home. Mr. Hicks is a WW II US Navy Veteran who served as a medical corpsman in a commando unit called “Lion 6”. After his military service he became a fireman and a policeman serving as the youngest member of the Columbus Police Detective Bureau. Ed had a career in the auto sales industry. He also served as Chairman of the Executive Board for Native American College Grants for the State of Ohio; and Caseworker for the State of Ohio Welfare Department. Ed had a passion for firearms and was owner and operator of the Gray Fox Gun Shop in Springfield Ohio. He was a member of the NRA, American Legion Roger L. Vickers Post 787 in Springfield, Ohio, and Bethel Lutheran Church. Preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Mary Hicks; and brother, Samuel Gaines Hicks. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Katherine Hicks; daughter, Marilyn A. Clark; sons, Patrick E. Hicks and LTC (R) Kelly J. (Eun H.) Hicks; grandchildren, Marie (Mark) Murtagh, Jennifer Low, Kimberly (Gregory) Payne, Jacqueline Hicks, and Bryan Hicks; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ethan, Samantha, and Kayla; sister, Evelyn Kabealo; other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday December 4 at the SCHOEDINGER-NORRIS CHAPEL 3920 Broadway Grove City. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, December 5 at Bethel Lutheran Church 4501 Hoover Rd., Grove City. Pastor Peter Ray officiating. Interment at Union Cemetery.
