Edward Albert Maag, age 98, passed away on 3/31/24. Ed was born on May 14, 1925, in Toledo, Ohio, to Albert and Kathryn (Rohrer) Maag. Ed was a graduate of Libbey High School and the University of Toledo. Ed earned a Bachelors of Business Administration from the University of Toledo. He played the Clarinet in the Marching Band and in the Orchestra at Libbey High School. Ed also played the Clarinet in the Marching Band at the University of Toledo for 2 years. He was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity (TEKE) while at the University of Toledo and remained an Honorary TEKE for the remainder of his life.
In 1952, Ed began employment at the Toledo Scale Company, in Toledo, and moved to Columbus, Ohio, when the Toledo Scale Company transferred their headquarters to Columbus. Ed was employed as a Government Business Contract Administrator and also served as Legal counsel for Commercial and Government orders. Ed retired from the Toledo Scale Company, in 1990, after (38) years of service. While in Toledo, Ohio, Ed was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church. He was Head of the Ushers, on the Finance Committee, on the Vestry, and served as a Lector.
Ed transferred to St. Marks Episcopal Church, in Upper Arlington, Ohio, and has been an active member since 1985. He served as an Usher and on the Coffee Committee. While retired, Ed enjoyed traveling with his wife, Mary, especially to places like Hawaii, Russia, and Egypt. He loved working with all the newest electronics. Ed also loved watching the westerns and was also a fan of Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers.
Ed met his wife, Mary (Vosburgh) Maag, at a YMCA Christmas Dance, while at the University of Toledo. Having similiar life experiences, they started dating, and married in November of 1952. Mary preceded him in death, in April 2015, after (63) years of marriage. Besides his beloved wife, Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Albert F. Maag and Kathryn (Roy) Goodyear, daughter, Mary K. (Bill) Peoples, granddaughter, Nicole Peoples, and step grandsons, Nicholas and Nathaniel Peoples. He is survived by daughter, Elizabeth Maag, of Columbus, Ohio, son, David ( Maria) Maag, of Lutz, Florida, granddaughter, Erica (Dean) Velasquez, of Tampa, Florida, grandson, Joe Maag, of San Francisco, California, and great granddaughter, Charlotte Velasquez, of Tampa, Florida.
A Memorial Service for Ed will held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 2151 Dorset Road, in Upper Arlington, Ohio, on April 13, 2024 at 1:00 PM. Ed’s ashes will be interned in the St. Marks Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.
